wooden wall lamp
It is said that one man's trash is another man's treasure. One of the easiest way to explore your creative side is to try to implement some lighting ideas.
Look around you, see for things that are left out and unused, now think about it and the question, can you turn that jar into a desk lamp? I have old copper tubes that have been lying around for ages now, can it be made into a vintage style chandelier?
In this project I used the steel plates from an old transformer that has been lying around at my home for sometime, an LED strip and two planks of wood.
I found an old transformer from my old UPS that I had. It's been dead for over three years. The transformer's core Consist basically constructed using metal sheets and that is what I have used for this build. You don't have to take apart the entire thing which is going to be a very difficult task. prying it open from the sides with a screwdriver and a hammer probably can expose those rectangular sheets that we can use for this build. I ended up with 86 of them.
I used two wooden planks for this project from an old window pane. 1/2 " screws alone with washers were used to secure the steel plates to the frame for that retro look.
I started with cutting down the wooden frame to 35 inches as this allowed me to for 35 metal plates perfectly with sufficient gap in between. The surface of the planks was sanded using an 80 grit sandpaper and polished. I used a matte finish wood polish for a more refined look.
The metal sheets were cleaned and spray painted black, here too a matte finish paint was used as I didn't want it to grab too much attention.
I screwed the sheets with the wooden planks ensuring the screws are tight to prevent any wobbling.I fixed the led strip along the insides of the build toward the back end so that it would not be too bright.
I finished it off by hanging on above the door.
